Many piano lessons are organized around the next piece. The studio is built on the foundation underneath the repertoire: technique, reading, theory, and musicianship.
A course of study shaped around your level, your goals, and the music you want to play, with focused work on repertoire, interpretation, and musicality.
Theory and technique continue between lessons, so the work at the piano rests on something solid.
Two small-group classes and an end-of-term recital create space to listen, perform, and work toward a real musical goal.
After the recital, students review the semester's progress. That reflection helps shape the goals for the semester ahead.
Many students return after years away and are surprised by how much remains. The work begins there, rebuilding gaps while moving toward the music they want to play now.
Adults beginning for the first time are welcome. We build reading, rhythm, technique, and musical understanding from the ground up.
Some students already play but want a clearer foundation. The work connects reading, technique, theory, and musical judgment so progress becomes more coherent.
Bassists, guitarists, producers, and singers often arrive with strong musical instincts but want greater fluency at the keyboard and stronger music literacy. The work builds piano, reading, and theory skills without treating them like beginners in music.
The studio is designed primarily for adults. Motivated students age ten and older with some musical background are also welcome. Learn more about Child & Teen Lessons.
Dr. Monique Arar is a pianist and educator whose work includes university teaching, performance, adjudication, and the development of comprehensive piano and musicianship study for adult learners.

“Working with Monique finally helped me make meaningful progress after a few years away from lessons. Her expertise made it easy to pinpoint the areas where I could improve, especially in technique, dynamics, and overall form. With Monique's guidance, I was able to master pieces I once thought were beyond my reach. I now feel like a stronger, more confident pianist, and I know I'm better equipped to continue my musical journey.”
