Some previous musical study, at the piano or on another instrument, so new work can connect to an existing foundation.
An interest in learning how music works, beyond completing the next piece.
A parent or guardian who can help protect a dependable lesson and practice routine.
Repertoire matters, but it is not the whole curriculum. Lessons connect the music a student wants to play with technique, reading, theory, and musicianship.
Lessons begin with the student’s current level, musical background, and goals. Feedback is specific, and the pace can adjust as skills develop.
Students learn to make sense of notation and musical patterns so they can return to music with understanding rather than rely only on rote memory.
Physical coordination, tone, and efficient movement are developed in direct connection with the music being studied.
Rhythm, harmony, structure, listening, and musical judgment help students understand what they are playing and make more informed choices.
These families describe the kind of progress this page emphasizes: independent reading and a complete musical education.
“My older daughter commented that Dr. Monique is more focused on teaching her to read her music rather than rote learning her piece so that she is better able to go back and play it whenever she likes.”
Vicki P. · Parent
My children recently started piano with Dr. Monique. They have both played piano before and are really enjoying their lessons. They say that Dr. Monique strikes a good balance between learning and having fun. My older daughter commented that Dr. Monique is more focused on teaching her to read her music rather than rote learning her piece so that she is better able to go back and play it whenever she likes. Both girls look forward to their lessons and they are learning a lot! Thanks Dr. Monique, I can't wait to see how they progress this year!
“She not only learned theory and practice skills, but she also learned performance skills.”
Melanie E. · Parent
Monique Arar is a very gifted teacher! She has both musicality and technical knowledge, and she is able to encourage her students to develop these skills. My daughter took lessons from Monique for a year and her skill level increased significantly. She not only learned theory and practice skills, but she also learned performance skills. Monique's requirements for her students greatly assisted us as parents. She is caring and truly invested in helping her students progress.
Strong progress depends on clear roles. Lessons work best when the student, parent or guardian, and teacher support the same direction.
The student
Arrives with questions and works with the feedback. Practice between lessons follows a dependable routine.
The parent or guardian
Protects lesson time at home and supports the practice routine. Stays reachable for essential communication.
The teacher
Builds the individual plan and gives clear, specific feedback. As the student develops, the work adjusts.
Lessons take place live online for students across the United States. Families receive practical guidance for camera placement and lesson setup so Dr. Monique can see the student and keyboard clearly.
Child & Teen Lessons are intended for motivated students age ten and older.
Students should have some prior musical background. The free call is the right place to discuss what the student has studied and whether the studio is an appropriate fit.
Yes. The first call is a short conversation with a parent or guardian about the student’s musical background, goals, and learning needs.
If the studio appears to be a good fit, the next step is explained privately. The full admissions pathway lives on the How It Works page.
Tell Dr. Monique about the student’s musical background, current goals, and what your family is looking for in lessons.
