EXPECTATION OF THE TEACHER
Music With Monique ensures an outstanding professional education. Students will receive individualized lessons from a highly-skilled teacher driven to see each student progress to his/her maximum potential. The student will receive lessons on a holistic level, in which a myriad of musicianship will be presented alongside piano technique.
EXPECTATION OF THE LESSON
Lessons will be timely and scheduling conflicts will be communicated well in advance. They will be fun and spontaneous, but will also incorporate disciplined, concentrated effort.
For the younger student, piano lessons are an exceptional component to their personal development instilling culture, discipline, respect, goal-setting skills, and pride from accomplishments achieved through hard work!
EXPECTATION OF THE STUDENT
The student must come to lessons on time, prepared (having practiced and with music books and journal) and ready to work. Anticipated tardiness must be communicated with the teacher and will result in a forfeit of lesson time. Should the teacher be running late, this will be communicated with the student, and lesson time will be made up.
FEE SCHEDULE
Payments for weekly lessons occur in semester installments (Spring, Summer, and Fall).
BOOKS AND SUPPLIES
Students should expect to purchase supplemental learning materials while taking lessons. Such materials may include: practice/assignment journal, method books, music scores, flashcards, workbooks, music dictionary, metronome and manuscript paper.
PRACTICE AND AT-HOME LEARNING
Consistent, thoughtful practice is the key to progress. It is imperative that the student allocate time to practice on a near-daily basis. Depending on the age and level of the student, the suggested duration of practice sessions will vary. The teacher will work with students to set appropriate and attainable practice goals. For younger students, parents should encourage and foster a consistent practice routine. Each lesson will begin with a review of the previous week's assignment and a discussion of practice accomplishments. Each class will conclude with a summary of the lesson and an overview of the subsequent week's assignments. The student will keep a journal of assignments and a record of accomplishments made during practice. For younger students, parents are encouraged to join the the lesson before its conclusion to ensure that assignments are understood and will be properly carried out.
PRACTICE SPACE AND INSTRUMENT
A quiet, undisturbed space is a must for practice. The student needs regular access to a quality instrument on which to practice - whether it be an in-tune acoustic piano or a "touch sensitive" digital piano of 88 weighted keys (for a very young beginner, 72 will suffice) and a pedal.
The student must have a bench which allows/him her to sit at an appropriate height at the keyboard. Alignment will be discussed with the teacher. For younger students, a footstool may also be needed.
CANCELLATIONS AND MAKE-UPS
A 24-hour notice is required for student cancellations. Additional details will be discussed during the first lesson.
RECITALS AND ADDITIONAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
