BIOGRAPHY AND TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Learning to read music before words, Dr. Monique's comprehensive education began with the Russian School of piano playing. Her promising potential and talent earned her various scholarships and awards to continue her studies at the university and graduate level. Continuing her musical studies under the tutelage of various distinguished international faculty, Dr. Monique earned her Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degree degrees in Piano Performance.
Dr. Monique's approach to pedagogy is both informed and thorough. Uniquely crafting each lesson to meet her students' needs, she provides a multifaceted approach to each lesson, incorporating theory, solfege, composition, dictation, and ensemble playing whenever possible.
With over twenty years of experience teaching students from pre-school age to retirees, beginners to advanced, Dr. Monique has successfully helped students pursue their passion and realize their piano playing dreams.
In addition to her private studio, Dr. Monique is a lecturer of Music Theory and Musicianship at Spelman College where she also serves as a collaborative pianist. Previous teaching engagements have included Music Theory, Musicianship, and Group Class Piano instructor as well as collaborative piano at Spelman College, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Clayton State University, and the University of North Georgia.
